The Museum welcomes you to attend a reception for this tenth annual juried art exhibition showcasing the talent and creativity of the artists of our local community. Juried by Associate Archivist at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City, Adrianna Del Collo, this exhibition is one that is not to miss! View all-original paintings, sculpture, photography, and more—all which have never before been exhibited at the Marietta/Cobb Museum of Art!

A gripping portrayal of the Great Locomotive Chase, featuring Andrews' Raiders, a band of Union soldiers and sympathizers, who pulled off a daring scheme to steal The General, a Confederate locomotive. DePoy's script is a moving portrait of the power of war, featuring Civil War era music. The raiders reviewed their plan in what is now known as the Kennesaw House, a stone's throw from Theatre in the Square. A world premiere. Recommended for age 16 and up.
12 tickets for high school and college students are available on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (at 8pm) and Sundays (at 7pm). First Friday Art Walk is back for another season. Come enjoy one of the most popular events on the Square. Not only will art galleries be featured, but merchants will also be displaying local, original works of art in their shops. Pick up an Art Walk map, which denotes what locations are featured and what artists will be spotlighted that evening. Maps of the venues are available at each participating merchant and at the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau.
Also visit, Artists' Alley! A juried exhibition located in the alley next to the Marietta Welcome Center. The Historic Marietta Trolley will make it easier to get to all the Art Walk stops that evening. They are running a free shuttle service that evening from 6pm-8pm.

Magnificent blown glass vessels by Tadashi Torii make up dk Gallery's upcoming Art Walk entitled, "The Magic & Mystery of Glass Art by Tadashi Torii". Claire Dunaway Marietta native artist and teacher, Claire Dunaway has drawn inspiration from her travels as well as family, canine camaraderie, faith, history, the great outdoors, and 800 elementary school students. With a B.A. in Fine Arts from Presbyterian College and an M.A.E.D. from the University of Phoenix, Dunaway works in charcoal, pastels, encaustic, and paint, sometimes venturing into photography, sculpture with ceramics, and printmaking. The Historic Marietta Square and Glover Park is the site of the Art in the Park Festival held each Labor Day weekend, Saturday-Monday. This fine art extravaganza features an artist market, children's art alley and an artist demonstration area and the famous Painted Pots.
It has been selected by Southeast Tourism Society as a Top 20 event since 2007 and is a Kaleidoscope Award winner from the Southeast Festivals and Events Association.
Art displayed will include paintings, photography, pottery, graphic arts, sculptures, jewelry, woodworking from 150 of the countries finest artists. Festival guests will also have the opportunity to visit the unique shops and boutiques, restaurants, museums and galleries, take in a historic walking tour plus much more, all within walking distance to the festival.

The Marietta Museum of History announces new tours for the smallest of visitors. Based on programs by the Smithsonian Institute's Early Enrichment Center, tours will be offered to toddlers from age 3 to 5 and their parents. Different topics will be offered on the second Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. and the cost is $5 per family.
The purpose of the one-hour tours is to introduce toddlers to history through very basic concepts like shapes, sounds, games, tools and jobs. Museum Mascots Murray and Etta are whimsical cartoon mice that will help convey the themes for the tours and provide a little fun. The tours will offer a variety of activities including story time and crafts.

Patton, famous tank commander of World War II. Nicknamed "Blood and Guts" for his determination on the battlefield, the commander guides his troops across Africa and Europe. Want to get a "behind-the-scenes" peek at the Earl Smith Strand Theatre? The Strand now offers guided tours of the historic theatre and event rental space. Participants will have the opportunity to learn about the history of the theatre dating back to the 1930s, recent renovation efforts and fun facts about the theatre business. Bring your lunch and enjoy a lecture by Museum Registrar Christa McCay. Exciting and inspiring stories about the life of Marietta's Regina Rambo Benson will be shared. Mrs. Benson was an early supporter of women's equality and was the only woman to drive a car in the 1910 Good Roads Tour. She ran for political office during the 1930s when few women did so. Come learn about a true legend and inspiration to many!
On the third Thursday of each month, the Marietta Museum of History hosts many authors, storytellers and interesting characters throughout the year. There are lunchtime and evening events and admission is $5 per person. However, members and City/County Employees are free.

The Series will continue throughout the summer, with concerts scheduled for the last Friday night of each month through September. This month features The Glow Band.
The concerts are free of charge but if you're looking for a "front-row seat," a limited number of tables can be reserved -- $45 for tables of six and $55 for tables for eight. Tables reservations are taken on a first come basis and may be reserved the first working day of each month.
Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up in the park after 4 p.m. Personal tables are not permitted in the park, however they may be set up on North Park Square after 5:30 p.m. Bring a picnic dinner (beer and wine are permitted) or dine in one of the many fine restaurants located on the square.

Marietta Reads! is a citywide effort to foster reading and literacy in our community. The purpose of this initiative is to encourage Marietta City School students to read more, read better and read widely.
Marietta Reads! is supported by a variety of citizens in a variety of ways. Students share book reviews, recommend books to each other, and encourage the reading of classmates and friends. Parents read at home to provide good models for children. Parents also read to and with their children, take them to the public library, and cheer them on as they work toward reading goals.

The award-winning program Scarecrows on the Square is back again for the 5th year, and Marietta Parks and Recreation wants to add your creation to the collection. The program is in conjunction with the Harvest Square Arts and Crafts Festival on October 16.
The Scarecrows will be invading the Square Saturday, September 25 at the Marietta Reads! kick off. Schools that wish to enter must have their scarecrows in place on Friday, September 24. There is no charge for school groups to enter.
There will be a $25.00 entry fee for all other scarecrows. The scarecrows will be judged on originality, construction, and presentation. You are urged to use a theme and name that fits your business or group's personality. Community scarecrows must be set up by October 1st. Judging will take place on October 8th. Winners will be announced and prizes awarded at 1:45 PM at the Halloween Happenings Costume Contest October 16th at Harvest Square. Scarecrows will need to be removed by their makers by November 2nd.

First Friday Art Walk is back for another season. Come enjoy one of the most popular events on the Square. Not only will art galleries be featured, but merchants will also be displaying local, original works of art in their shops. Pick up an Art Walk map, which denotes what locations are featured and what artists will be spotlighted that evening. The Marietta Museum of History announces new tours for the smallest of visitors. Based on programs by the Smithsonian Institute's Early Enrichment Center, tours will be offered to toddlers from age 3 to 5 and their parents. Different topics will be offered on the second Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. and the cost is $5 per family.
The purpose of the one-hour tours is to introduce toddlers to history through very basic concepts like shapes, sounds, games, tools and jobs. Museum Mascots Murray and Etta are whimsical cartoon mice that will help convey the themes for the tours and provide a little fun. The tours will offer a variety of activities including story time and crafts.

The market has an average of 58 vendors and hundreds of customers each week. Market customers have lots of variety to choose from including heirloom tomatoes, fruits and vegetables that are rarely, if ever, available from the grocery store.

The 34rd annual Harvest Square Arts and Crafts Festival will feature many local and area artists and craftspeople. Exhibitors will include painting, pottery, woodwork, metal, jewelry, glass, fabric and floral designs.
This year the festival will feature Halloween Happenings and Scarecrows on the Square. The Marietta Square Farmers Market will also take place during the festival from 9 a.m.-noon. This year's festival combines Halloween Happenings and Scarecrows on the Square into a day of family fun.
Halloween Happenings will feature games, activities and prizes for the entire family. Scarecrows will be set up by schools, groups, and organizations the first week in October and will remain in the Square until November 1.

The Marietta Museum of History announces new tours for the smallest of visitors. Based on programs by the Smithsonian Institute's Early Enrichment Center, tours will be offered to toddlers from age 3 to 5 and their parents. Different topics will be offered on the second Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. and the cost is $5 per family.
The purpose of the one-hour tours is to introduce toddlers to history through very basic concepts like shapes, sounds, games, tools and jobs. Museum Mascots Murray and Etta are whimsical cartoon mice that will help convey the themes for the tours and provide a little fun. The tours will offer a variety of activities including story time and crafts.

Ron Ransom, best known for his iconic carved wooden Santa figures, will be joining us November 18th at 7pm. Mr. Ransom has been the "Thumbs Up" cartoonist for the Marietta Daily Journal for nearly three decades and is an accomplished author –selling over 50,000 copies of his "How To" carving books. The World of Coca-Cola Museum asked Mr. Ransom to carve a Santa for them and now proudly displays his work of art.
On the third Thursday of each month, the Marietta Museum of History hosts many authors, storytellers and interesting characters throughout the year. There are lunchtime and evening events and admission is $5 per person. However, members and City/County Employees are free.

The Marietta Museum of History announces new tours for the smallest of visitors. Based on programs by the Smithsonian Institute's Early Enrichment Center, tours will be offered to toddlers from age 3 to 5 and their parents. Different topics will be offered on the second Wednesday of every month at 10:30 a.m. and the cost is $5 per family.
The purpose of the one-hour tours is to introduce toddlers to history through very basic concepts like shapes, sounds, games, tools and jobs. Museum Mascots Murray and Etta are whimsical cartoon mice that will help convey the themes for the tours and provide a little fun. The tours will offer a variety of activities including story time and crafts.

Dr. Seuss's much-loved book about the real meaning of Christmas comes alive, with comic wunderkind Jim Carrey starring in the titular role of a green-faced gnome who plots to rob Whoville of the Yuletide. Live organ pops variety show of Christmas music and sing-along at 2:30 PM. Patrons have the chance to help share the Christmas spirit with families who need a hand up at this event. The Center for Family Resources needs the community's help to stock their pantries for January, typically the lowest stocked month of the year. Davis plays matchmaker and introduces Wallace to a pair of beautiful sisters who also have a stage act. When Betty and Judy travel to a Vermont lodge for a Christmas show, Wallace and Davis follow, only to find their former commander, General Waverly, owns the lodge. A series of romantic mix-ups ensue. The Marietta Fire Museum provides a unique look at firefighting techniques and equipment from as far back as the late 1800s. The highlight of the museum is the “Aurora,” a steam-powered fire engine purchased by the city of Marietta in 1879. Also on view are pumper trucks from the 1920s, a 1949 ladder truck, and an extensive variety of firefighting paraphernalia.
The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum: Scarlett on the Square was established in April of 2003 and currently houses Dr. Christopher Sullivan's privately owned collection of GWTW book and movie memorabilia. In recent years, Sullivan's collection was displayed at Kent State University, the Self - Family Arts Center in Hilton Head, South Carolina and at MGM Studios in Walt Disney World. The collection features an impressive compilation of artifacts related to the novel and film including foreign film posters, rare press and publicity books, premiere programs, conceptual artworks, costume pieces, contracts, advertisements, promotional items and collectibles.

The Root House, one of the oldest surviving frame houses in Marietta, offers visitors an opportunity to experience how a middle-class merchant and his family lived in the 1850s.
