Stealing Dixie

A gripping portrayal of the Great Locomotive Chase, featuring Andrews' Raiders, a band of Union soldiers and sympathizers, who pulled off a daring scheme to steal The General, a Confederate locomotive. DePoy's script is a moving portrait of the power of war, featuring Civil War era music. The raiders reviewed their plan in what is now known as the Kennesaw House, a stone's throw from Theatre in the Square. A world premiere. Recommended for age 16 and up.

 

12 tickets for high school and college students are available on Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday (at 8pm) and Sundays (at 7pm). Students with proper ID will receive ½ price discount on available seats (reg. price $24). Student tickets are available starting at one hour before show time. We suggest calling the afternoon of the performance to check availability.

First Friday Art Walk

Historic Marietta Square

First Friday Art Walk is back for another season. Come enjoy one of the most popular events on the Square. Not only will art galleries be featured, but merchants will also be displaying local, original works of art in their shops. Pick up an Art Walk map, which denotes what locations are featured and what artists will be spotlighted that evening. Maps of the venues are available at each participating merchant and at the Marietta Welcome Center & Visitors Bureau.

 

Also visit, Artists' Alley! A juried exhibition located in the alley next to the Marietta Welcome Center. The Historic Marietta Trolley will make it easier to get to all the Art Walk stops that evening. They are running a free shuttle service that evening from 6pm-8pm.

ArtWalk & Jazz Friday: The Magic & Mystery of Glass Art with Tadashi Torii

Magnificent blown glass vessels by Tadashi Torii make up dk Gallery's upcoming Art Walk entitled, "The Magic & Mystery of Glass Art by Tadashi Torii". These selected works showcase the brilliance of Tadashi's glass artistry, to be revealed August 6, from 5:00 p.m. – 9:00 p.m. Art lovers are invited to enjoy an evening of live jazz, wine and the opportunity to take part in a special Art Talk with Tadashi from 5:00 p.m. – 6:00 p.m.

 

Tadashi is known for his advanced glass blowing techniques shown in both his large vessel pieces and in his smaller ornamental works. Tadashi is no doubt an accomplished glass artist, having mastered the Incalmo, Reticello and Crackle techniques. From bold colors to the delicate and intricate designs in his works, every piece shows Tadashi's fine skill using this complex medium.

Blair Crimmins & The Hookers

The Strand Theatre

Crimmins and his Hookers may be based in Cabbagetown, Atlanta but their music pulls on the addictive styles of New Orleans jazz. Blair Crimmins' sound is a unique blend of gritty ragtime and '20s and '30s swing with clever lyrics, and contemporary style. The band has eclectic orchestrations featuring any combination of saxophones, trumpet, trombone, clarinet, accordion, banjo, drum kit and auxiliary percussion. Jeffrey Butzer opens with his piano-driven songs that connect French folk tunes with Danny Elfman compositions.
