Star Spangled Scarlett Weekend

The three-day event begins with five Gone With the Wind stars cruising along the parade route in Marietta's annual Independence Day Parade. Meet original cast members from the movie Gone with the Wind: Cammie King Conlon (Bonnie Blue Butler), Fred Crane (Brent Tarleton), Patrick Curtis (Baby Beau Wilkes), Mickey Kuhn (seven-year-old Beau Wilkes), Ann Rutherford (Carreen O'Hara), Rhett Butler and Larry Weaver (owner and driver of famous show truck).

Schedule of Events

  • July 4: Parade, autographs, museum tours, door prize drawings and Rhett Butler show truck on display, 1o a.m.-5:30 p.m.
  • July 5: "Star Struck" team trivia breakfast with celebrities, 9:30 a.m.-noon
  • July 5: Dancing with the Stars and Stripes, 1940s Dinner/Dance with "Salute to the Military" and special guests. Live big band music with Society Express Band, 5:30-11 p.m.
  • July 6: "I'm Ready for my Close-up", photo booth, live auction with Gone with the Wind memorabilia, Gone with the Wind fashion show and costume contest, 11 a.m.-7:30 p.m.

Glover Park Evening Concert Series

The Glover Park Concert Series is "the" place to be in Marietta the last Friday evening of each month April through August. Prime will perform this evening. The park is the perfect setting for families and friends to enjoy a picnic and listen music under the stars! Concerts are rain or shine. Blankets and lawn chairs may be set up after 4:00 PM. No personal tables are permitted in the park. A limited number of table are available for rent on the first working day of the month for that concert. Tables for six are $45 and tables for eight are $55. The free concerts are presented by Marietta Parks and Recreation Department and the Downtown Marietta Development Authority. A live DJ will be providing entertainment during the event. Santa Claus will be arriving by way of an old fire engine for “Hawaiian Style” pictures with Santa. (For those of you who traditionally come to the Square during the holidays for Santa pictures- this is the SAME SANTA- so you can add to your collection!) Readings of “Elf on a Shelf”, complete with dressed actors. A “design your own” ornament craft section for the kids. This will be by donation only with all profits going to Cobb Christmas.

Marietta Museum of History
Located on the second floor of the historic Kennesaw House, the Marietta Museum of History houses the city’s extensive historical collections of photographs, artifacts and documentary information of Marietta in particular, and North Georgia in general.

Marietta/ Cobb Museum of Art
The Marietta/ Cobb Museum of Art is the only metropolitan Atlanta fine arts museum focusing on 19th and 20th Century American art. It hosts national touring exhibitions, and offers lectures, workshops, classes, and art festivals. Other social and cultural opportunities are also offered.

William Root House
The Root House, one of the oldest surviving frame houses in Marietta, offers visitors an opportunity to experience how a middle-class merchant and his family lived in the 1850s.

Marietta Fire Museum
The Marietta Fire Museum provides a unique look at firefighting techniques and equipment from as far back as the late 1800s. The highlight of the museum is the “Aurora,” a steam-powered fire engine purchased by the city of Marietta in 1879. Also on view are pumper trucks from the 1920s, a 1949 ladder truck, and an extensive variety of firefighting paraphernalia.

The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum: Scarlett on the Square
The Marietta Gone With the Wind Museum: Scarlett on the Square was established in April of 2003 and currently houses Dr. Christopher Sullivan's privately owned collection of GWTW book and movie memorabilia. In recent years, Sullivan's collection was displayed at Kent State University, the Self - Family Arts Center in Hilton Head, South Carolina and at MGM Studios in Walt Disney World. The collection features an impressive compilation of artifacts related to the novel and film including foreign film posters, rare press and publicity books, premiere programs, conceptual artworks, costume pieces, contracts, advertisements, promotional items and collectibles.
